MAINE BEAR HUNTING | ||
|
In Maine, the baited bear hunt season begins on or about the first of September and is open for four weeks. The 2011 season opens August 29th. With over 50 active sites, Bowlin Camps has enjoyed an annual 50 percent or greater hunter success for over 30 years. Our bear hunts are from stands and ground blinds. We have them positioned for the rifle, handgun, or bow enthusiast. Bear hunts are fully guided for one week, beginning and ending on Sunday, with six days of hunting (Monday thru Saturday). We also provide areas for sighting of weapons. Lodging, meals, game handling (to include skinning) and transportation to and from the stand is provided. Our average bear is 140 to 175 pounds, however, we take several each year that tip the scales at 300 plus. Our largest bear in 2010 dressed at 358 pounds, making its live weight well over 400 pounds. Our game photos show a number of bears well over 500 pounds visiting our baits! Many hunters who get their bear early in the hunt continue to hunt their stand for coyote. Calling in a coyote can be a very exciting experience. Others spend their time fishing for the much sought after "brookie" or for small mouth bass (license required). |
