On the East Branch
of the Penobscot River

Baited bear hunts begin on or about the first of September and is open for 4 weeks. The 2007 season saw 21 hunters harvest 15 bears.  We did have a few misses.  17 out of 21 had an opportunity. With over 40 active sites, Bowlin Camps has enjoyed an annual 50 percent or greater hunter success for over 30 years. Our bear hunts are from stands and ground blinds.  We have them positioned for the rifle, pistol, or bow enthusiast.

Bear hunts are for one full week, beginning and ending on Sunday, with six days of hunting (Monday thru Saturday). Lodging, meals, game handling ( to include skinning) and transportation to and from the stand is provided. Our average bear   is 140 to 175 lbs., however, we take several each year that tip the scales at 300 plus. Our largest in 2007 was over 300lbs.  Many hunters who get their bear early in the hunt continue to hunt their stand for coyote. Calling in a coyote can be a very exciting experience. Others spend their time fishing for the much sought after "brookie". (license required)

For your convenience, we sell non-resident hunting and fishing licenses at the camp. To bear hunt you need a big game license which also covers coyote ( $102.00) and a bear tag ($87.00). To purchase a non-resident license you need to show a hunting license from another state or a hunter education card. You may also purchase your lisence on line at: www.mefishwildlife.com

Our baited bear hunts are modestly price at $1595.00. (excludes license fees and sales tax) Non hunting guest fee: $395.00
