Bowlin Camps has a long history of successful trophy whitetail hunting in Maine. Since 1895, the camp has always been very successful. Many of our customers return each season with great results. In the 2009 season, our two largest deer were an eleven point dressed at 210 pounds and a nine point dressed at 200 pounds.

The traditional method for hunting true wilderness bucks is hunting or stalking. This method can be very successful, especially once the snow hits. We have also found that stand hunting is equally, if not more, successful. Hunters coming for their first hunt may purchase the services of a guide for one or two days. This gives the hunter a great experience in one of the deer pockets that will contain a good buck.

Stand hunting in the many pockets of known deer country is becoming very popular. Wilderness whitetails do not have a lot of contact with humans and have distinct patterns. Patience, good observation techniques, and proper stand placement is often the best combination for taking both deer and bear during the November season. Make sure you bring good gear, a sighted rifle, and a determination to hunt each day, all day! Mental attitude is one of the most important factors with successful hunters.

Our big bucks dress well over 200 pounds and score consistently in the 140 pound range. Deer this size did not grow big by making mistakes, so the hunter must be flexible, determined, and ready for that one or two second opportunity. We look forward to having you hunt with us for seasons to come, so take the time to make your stay with Bowlin Camps a good one. This is big country up here so map and compass skills are important. We are always glad to give you a refresher when you arrive. Just ask any one of the guides for some help. The key factors that affect our deer pockets are mast, cover, and snow. The predominate mast crop in our area is beechnuts. We do have some isolated oak ridges which our guides know well. Drought, logging, cover, and early frosts can be important factors in how the deer move during the season. We give all our hunters a good update on the status of these factors before they begin their hunt. Our goal is to put you on a good buck so come ready to hunt! We guarantee you our best effort every day!
